SSL is now recommended for all websites, not just ecommerce sites.

Chrome and other browsers are starting to highlight any non-SSL website as ‘not secure’ and Google is also punishing sites in their search rankings that do not use SSL.

Here’s Google’s statement on it:

Free options for setting up SSL:

Cloudflare is a ‘Content Delivery Network’ that improves the speed of your site, provides SSL, and provides protection from denial of service attacks. Their free tier includes SSL support, and it should work with any website tool. VinoShipper uses cloudflare.

Let’s Encrypt provides free SSL certificates for use with your own server. Many content management tools have plugins that will automate the process of getting an SSL certificate from let’s encrypt.

You can also reach out to your website host directly to see what SSL options they offer.
