Add product to cart

Modified on Fri, 1 May at 2:31 PM

There are various ways that you can add a product to the cart, described below.

By default, the POS opens to a simple Cart. The header at the top of the cart shows Guest Customer (or the customer's name, if one has been added). If a tab is open, that header is replaced by the Tab Summary in blue, showing the tab name, associated card, and team member — and any products you add will be added to that tab.

For more on the difference between carts and tabs, see Using carts in POS and Using tabs in POS.

Add product to cart

  1. In the POS, navigate to Products.
  2. Check the top of the cart to confirm where the product will be added:
    1. Guest Customer or a customer name: Product will be added to a simple cart.
    2. Tab Summary: Product will be added to the open tab.
To switch tabs or open a different one, tap the Tabs button. To create a new tab, see Using tabs in POS.
  3. Find the product you wish to add to the cart.
    • Select product on Product List.
      • On iPad:
        1. On the products side of the screen, find the product you wish to add to the cart. Use the search bar or filters to help find the product, if necessary.
        2. Tap the product.
      • On iPhone:
        1. Navigate to Products.
        2. Find the product you wish to add to the cart. Use the search bar or filters to help find the product, if necessary.
        3. Tap the product.
    • Scan barcode (see important notes below).
      • On iPad:
        1. Navigate to Products.
        2. Tap the Barcode button next to the search bar on the products side of the screen to launch the scanner.
        3. Scan the barcode using your device's camera.
      • On iPhone:
        1. Navigate to Products or Cart.
        2. If you are in Products click the Barcode button next to the search bar on the products side of the screen to launch the scanner.
        3. Scan the barcode using your device's camera.
        4. If you are in Cart click the Menu button on the top right and choose Scan Barcode.
  4. The product details sheet appears. By default, the product details sheet assumes you want to add the minimum order quantity to the cart. The minimum can be overridden in POS.
  5. Adjust the quantity, if needed by entering the quantity directly into the quantity field or by tapping the +/- buttons next to the quantity field to increase/decrease the quantity.
  6. Tap Add to Cart.
  7. The quantity specified of the product is added to the cart or to the open tab, if one is active. If this product already existed in the cart, the quantity of the product in the cart is increased by the quantity specified. See details for adding comped items to the cart.

Important notes regarding barcode scanning

  • In order to match UPC barcodes, you will need to edit your products via the Vinoshipper web interface. Enter the barcode for each product into the UPC field.
  • Barcode scanning is only available on devices with iOS/iPadOS 16+, an Apple Neural Engine (ANE) and a camera.
    • The first ANE-enabled iPads were the fifth-generation iPad mini (2019), the third-generation iPad Air (2019), and the eighth-generation iPad (2020). All iPads released since have an ANE.
    • The first ANE-enabled iPhones were the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR (all 2018). All iPhones since have an ANE.
  • The POS must be granted Camera access in order to support barcode scanning.
  • There may be other restrictions (e.g. screen time restrictions) that cause your camera to be unavailable for barcode scanning.
