Creating a build-your-own multi pack

Modified on Wed, 4 Nov at 4:22 PM

A build your own multi-pack lets customers pick each item in the pack from a dropdown. You set it up with two pieces: a product group that holds the choices, and a multi-pack that customers see on your website.

Before you start

Each item customers can choose needs to exist as its own product and be approved by our team before you can add it to a product group.

The steps below use a build your own 4-pack with 6 cider flavors. The setup is the same for any pack size and any beverage.

Create the product group

The product group holds the list of choices customers see in each dropdown.

  1. Click Products > Product List > Add Product > Product Group.
  2. Enter a name, a description, and a default image.
  3. Click Add Attribute and name it for what customers are choosing, such as Flavor or Varietal.
  4. Add every available product as a value. For this example, enter Honeycrisp Cider, Apple Pie Cider, Pear Cider, Pineapple Cider, Peach Mango Cider, and Blackberry Cider.
  5. Map each value to its individual product, then click the star icon to set the default variant. Steps for this are in Product groups.
  6. Toggle on Hide on Main Catalog so the group doesn't appear as its own listing, then click Save.

Note: The individual products are hidden from standalone listings by default through the Hide when in Product Group setting. Turn it off on a product if you also want to sell it on its own.

Create the multi-pack

The multi-pack is the listing that appears on your website.

  1. Click Products > Product List > Add Product > Multi-Pack.
  2. Enter the product name, description, and image. The remaining fields are covered in Create a multi-pack.
  3. Under Pack Contents, click Add Product, select the product group you just created, and click Add Selected.
  4. Add the product group once for each item in the pack. For a 4-pack, add it 4 times. Each time you add it creates one dropdown for customers.
  5. Review the pack and click Save.

Set the price

The price changes based on the variant a customer selects. To override it, check Custom Price next to the product group in Pack Contents and enter the price you want.

What customers see

The multi-pack listing shows one dropdown for each time you added the product group. Customers can choose the same item in more than one dropdown. Their selections appear in the cart under the multi-pack.

Note: Product groups work on ecommerce, POS, and the web-based Place an Order. They don't work in clubs.
